The Christmas season is approaching, and what's an absolute must? That's right, a delicious braided yeast bread. Very sweet, but indescribably delicious, especially with butter. Just like Grandma used to make.
Ingredients
- 750 g freshly ground flour
- 125 g sugar
- 1 cube of yeast
- 375 ml lukewarm milk
- 100 g butter
- 1 pinch of salt
- 2 eggs
preparation
- Sift the flour into a bowl. Dissolve the yeast in 3-4 tablespoons of lukewarm milk and 1 teaspoon of sugar, then pour this mixture into a small well in the flour. Lightly mix the yeast with a little flour. Cover with a kitchen towel and let it rise for about 15 minutes.
- Cover the already risen yeast with flour, then add the remaining milk, butter, sugar, eggs and salt.
- Mix all ingredients together thoroughly. Knead with an electric mixer on the highest setting for about 5 minutes until a smooth dough is formed.
- Cover the dough again with a kitchen towel and let it rise until it has roughly doubled in size. This takes about 45 minutes.
- Place the dough on the work surface and knead briefly again. Divide into three strands and braid them.
- Brush with lukewarm milk, that gives a nice color!
- Bake in a preheated oven at 200 °C (top/bottom heat) for approximately 20–30 minutes.
